Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga
Chairman, CMI FoodsJuan José Gutiérrez Mayorga is Chairman of CMI Foods, a CMI (Corporación Multi Inversiones) holding, a Latin American multinational family corporation founded in 1920 by his grandfather, Juan Bautista Gutiérrez. CMI employs over 40,000 people in 14 countries from 3 continents and generates investment, employment, and development in the region.
The CMI business portfolio of the CMI Foods holding is varied: wheat flour mills; pasta, cracker and cookie manufacturing; poultry and swine production, processed meats and various types of sausages; nutritional animal production and pet foods; restaurants, featuring the Pollo Campero brand, among other CMI businesses.
CMI Capital includes renewable energy projects, real estate projects, and financial services.
Juan José Gutiérrez chaired Pollo Campero for over 30 years, during which he led the company’s expansion to the rest of Central America, the United States and Europe, transforming it into the Latin American world’s largest restaurant chain.
Pollo Campero is present in 10 countries, where it operates more than 340 restaurants, of which at least 76 are in the United States, in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Houston Dallas, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, among others. Pollo Campero is also present in Spain and Italy, with over 30 restaurants.
In 2005, Juan José Gutiérrez was acknowledged as one of the Super CEO’s and appeared in the cover of Newsweek USA, and was also included among the “Ten Big Thinkers for Big Business”.
Between 1990-1995, he chaired the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial, and Financial Associations (CACIF), the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry (CIG), the Central American Federation of Chambers of Industry (FECAICA), and the Private Sector Federation of Associations of Central America and the Caribbean (FEDEPRICAP).
Juan José Gutiérrez is also a board member of Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, CMI’s social foundation, that mainly supports education and health projects in Guatemala.
Three of his most relevant personal projects include:
College Scholarship Program. Over 100 young professionals have graduated from different careers with the support of this program, that continues to grant 25 new full scholarships every year.
My Health…My Responsibility Program. This program has trained over 80,000 youth and 8,000 teachers betwen 2008-2017. Nutrition and Community Entrepreneurship Program. This program seeks the combined objectives of decreasing existing chronic malnutrition indexes and creating alternatives to improve women’s income through community entrepreneurship initiatives in San Cristóbal Totonicapán, Guatemala.
Additionally, he significantly contributes every year to child cancer treatment through the ÚNETE (Join Us) program.

Over more than 44 years, Juan Luis Bosch has led the growth and expansion strategies of the Corporation. Currently, he is a director of Banco Industrial and PRONACA, an Equatorian leading company that produces and distributes food products.
He has chaired both the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry (CIG) and the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial, and Financial Associations (CACIF), the highest private sector coordinating agency in Guatemala.
He also chaired Centro América 2000, an organization that gathered Central American entrepreneurs seeking to develop a common long term vision during the 90’s.
Today, Juan Luis Bosch is part of the Council of the Americas (COA), an organization that gathers some of the largest Blue Chip companies in the United States, whose main goal is to promote free trade, democracy, and the creation of new markets in the Americas.
He founded the Central America Leadership Initiative (CALI), a joint effort among entrepreneurs, INCAE business school (Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas) and the Aspen Institute, focused on strengthening the future leadership in Central America, develop networking, and support regional development.
He is a board member of Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, CMI’s social foundation, that mainly supports education and health projects in Guatemala.
Firmly committed to supporting education, he also serves as a trustee of Fundación de la Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, whose mission is to support education programs to improve the quality of life of Guatemalans through education.
He is actively involved in the “Plan Visión de País” initiative (Country Vision Plan), an interinstitutional effort to create a long term development plan for Guatemala.
His active participation in various institutions and projects at both local and regional level focused on improving the countries’ performance and the quality of life of their inhabitants, are proof of Juan Luis Bosch’s unremitting commitment to promote regional development.
