Our story officially began in 1920´s with a little convenience store located in San Cristobal, Totonicapán, Guatemala.
1930
CMI’s – business activities first started in 1936 in the flour mill business Unit under the name Molino Excelsior.
1960
Granja Villalobos, our first poultry farm, was founded in Guatemala in 1964.
1970
Pollo Campero was founded in 1971 and in 1972 the corporation began its expansion towards Central America with its poultry operations and restaurants, starting in El Salvador. Our Restaurants in Central America Business Unit is now led by Pollo Campero.
1980
We founded Multi-Proyectos Business Unit in 1986 with the objective of developing and operating commercial centers and real estate projects for sale in different areas of Guatemala.
1990
Starting in 1994, we launched a franchise program to take Campero to other parts of the world. In the same decade, the Finances Business Unit was formed to provide financial services for the different companies that make up CMI.
2000
We expanded our poultry and flour mill operations to Central America and the Dominican Republic in 2000.
Later on, the Energy Business Unit was founded in 2004.
2006 - We opened the first Pollo Campero restaurants in Europe, Asia and the United States.
2013 - CMI became actively involved in the telecommunications business by acquiring Telefónica Movistar in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Panama. Also, a new wheat flour mill was acquired in the south of Mexico.
2015 – CMI obtained Gemina, a wheat flour mill in Chinandega, Nicaragua.
2016 - We incorporated wind energy and solar energy projects by acquiring one of the most important renewable energy platforms in the region.
2017 - Latam Hotel Plaza, Quetzaltenango´s first five-star hotel was inaugurated.
